? do you think Affirmative Action is still necessary

Is it even yet? have we reached to the level that epitomizes that famous phrase in the declaration of independence 'all men are created equal'.. i say hell no. we have come a long way, but we still have so far to go.. electing a black president is definite progress, but not mentioning he's black in the first place is major progress.. The biggest misconception that i hear about affirmative action is that it gives minorities advantages over the majority of citizens, but that is completely not true.. first and foremost affirmative action wasn't put in just to combat race discrimination, it was put in also to off set gender discrimination. so women should be down for it. and secondly, that majority of people that have made up america for a long time now have had their own version of affirmative action and it's called Congress. and for those who question that Obama will now give African Americans more privileges than they have had before should go ahead and admit that having a president that is your same race does make a difference. oh my bad, all of the presidents for the past 300 years have been white. what an advantage.. Affirmative action is only in place to make sure that there is an open playing field for minorities and women a like. it's not in place for people to cut corners, and it's not allowing un-qualified candidates to have mandatory interviews. it's only in place to combat the race and gender discrimination that has been going on for centuries.. A.A. is going to be necessary until race is not something we mention at all. so we still have a while to go... what do you think?
